La Festa Mille Mille Miglia 2015

Report

【Day2】17 Oct 2015

Under the clear weather, enjoying the run on varied route

October 17, day two, the race took place over a long-distance route of more than 300 kilometers. In the early morning, the party departed from NASPA New Otani where they stayed at, passing through Takada Park, Joetsu, Iiyama Schanze where you could enjoy ski jump, and Shibu Onsen, stopping at Shinshu Matsushiro Royal Hotel for lunch, driving through the old Karuizawa and finishing the race in The Prince Karuizawa.

Unlike day one, the weather was clear throughout the day. The route for day two combined a winding road where you could view terraced rice fields and the mountain range, and a street passed through hot spring resorts and a shopping street. The entrants enjoyed driving on the varied route, some having a peeling skin on their noses from sunburn. One of the entrants from Europe commented with a smile that they were able to enjoy Japanese landscape through this route.

Since it was Saturday and sunny, compare to the previous day, the starting and finish lines as well as stamp points were more crowded with spectators visiting this event. This scene was really impressive. Many of the spectators have visited this event several times, and were enjoying the event as always waving a flag with a smile for cheering. We had a chance to talk with one of the spectators, who was a manager of a hotel in Shibu Onsen. What made her get into historic cars was Ken Yokoyama, a vocal of the Crazy Ken Band, who participated in this event. Just because she is a fan of Ken Yokoyama, and he drives through in front of her hotel in this event, she looked forward to this event each year. Now, she has become interested in historic cars and hopes to participate in this event with her own car one day. Whatever the catalyst is, we are pleased that the number of historic car fans increases more and more.

Day 3, this race is scheduled to start from Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, pass through Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture and Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, and finish at HOTEL DE YAMA in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture.
