La Festa Mille Mille Miglia 2018

Report

【Day2】20 Oct 2018

Welcome back to Tohoku !

There would be rain today as well, according to the forecast. In Urabandai, it gets so cold in the morning in October. The entrants were fully warming up their car by revving up the engine early in the morning. Some of the the entrants installed a convertible top on the car, and those who were in an open-top car wore a helmet and rainwear for the rain before starting the rally.

The route of day two traveled approximately 340 km, starting from Fukushima Prefecture and passing through Miyagi Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture and back to Fukushima. Many points were set along the way, in a spa town, castle, circuit, airport, local hall, local museum, and shrine, so the entrants had a lot of opportunities to meet and interact with local people there.

Some of local people were waiting for La Festa Mille Miglia to be back in Tohoku for eight years, others clearly remembered the past event and route. They all welcomed the entrants warmly, saying, "Welcome back." Of course, there were a lot of people coming to see La Festa Mille Miglia for the first time. I hope they will enjoy this autumn's event every year.

As it was Saturday, there were local people coming to cheer at every point. Many little children also cheered for the entrants energetically and lifted entrants' spirits. Seeing those children made the entrants smile even though they were exhausted from the long distance traveling under the unstable weather. The entrants were happy to see children looking at the cars they had never seen with their eyes sparkling.

The cold rain started to fall in the evening. It was as if the weather was giving the final challenge to the entrants before they arrived at the hotel. Still, the entrants were encouraged by people waiting in the rain to cheer for them, and were able to come back to Urabandai. The entrants traveled around three prefectures in Tohoku today, seeing local people and the scenery for the first time in eight years and meeting new people as well, and I rediscovered the great things about Tohoku through today's journey.

Day three will travel approximately 450 km from Urabandai to Narita by way of Tochigi Prefecture. The entrants were checking the condition of their car for the long drive tomorrow. This tough, yet enjoyable journey is not over yet.
